From their website: The City of Costa Mesa has created this page as the main source of information regarding the City’s regulation of group homes, including sober living homes, and certain state licensed facilities. The City seeks to ensure a balance between the needs of its residents, who wish to enjoy the peace and quiet of their homes in a traditional residential neighborhood and the needs of those living in residential recovery facilities to enjoy this same quality of life that Costa Mesa has to offer. Visit the site for more information. The Coalition Against Insurance Fraud is America’s only anti-fraud alliance speaking for consumers, insurance companies, government agencies and others. (from their website) The Medical Board is responsible for reviewing and investigating complaints about, and disciplining the following medical professions: Further, the Board’s staff also reviews and investigates complaints about Doctors of Podiatric Medicine and Physician Assistants; however, any disciplinary action taken against one of these licensees is decided by the licensing Board/Bureau for that profession. If an individual or organization appears to have violated the laws within the Board’s jurisdiction, Board staff will investigate the allegations and charges may be filed. Following are the types of complaints reviewed by the Board: Formed in 1993, NAMSDL began as the President’s Commission on Model State Drug Laws. This congressionally-established commission was charged with creating a model code of laws to help states effectively address alcohol and other drug abuse. Of particular interest is their Model Patient Protection & Treatment Ethics Actc A model law outlawing unethical “treatment providers” who are preying on those suffering with SUDs and their families to fiscally exploit them and their health insurers without providing real treatment, through patient brokering, website hijacking, kickbacks and other illegal means. LINK TO ACT: https://namsdl.org/wp-content/uploads/Model-Patient-Protection-and-Treatment-Ethics-Act.pdf If a person needs substance use disorder treatment, getting them the care they need when they need it is crucial. Unfortunately, there are individuals taking advantage of the current heroin and opioid epidemic by profiting off of people in need of treatment. These individuals, known as body brokers, work independently or as employees of treatment providers to direct patients into programs that provide little to no treatment. Their services are offered to those with private insurance that include out of network coverage. New York State is intensely focused on stopping this predatory practice, and you can help. If you or someone you know has been impacted by a body broker, contact StopTreatmentFraud@oasas.ny.gov.
