Resource / Agency Description
If a person needs substance use disorder treatment, getting them the care they need when they need it is crucial. Unfortunately, there are individuals taking advantage of the current heroin and opioid epidemic by profiting off of people in need of treatment. These individuals, known as body brokers, work independently or as employees of treatment providers to direct patients into programs that provide little to no treatment. Their services are offered to those with private insurance that include out of network coverage.
New York State is intensely focused on stopping this predatory practice, and you can help. If you or someone you know has been impacted by a body broker, contact StopTreatmentFraud@oasas.ny.gov.
